Hello! I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. I started my first novel 2 years ago, wrote 22,000 words in the first 2 years of working on it, then made a commitment to myself to finish it by my next birthday, put myself on a schedule, and wrote another 22,000 words in the past 5 months. My novel is upmarket women's fiction, centered around a middle-aged woman's faltering marriage and her tense relationships with her teenage daughter and dying mother. I keep my weekly word count goal low, but manageable with a full-time job and 2 young children. I have 6 out of 10 chapters complete, bits and pieces of 2 others, and a whole lotta notes. The whole process has been invigorating and endlessly fascinating as I've figured out what works for me and learned about myself as a writer, but dismally lonely! I'm to the point where I've been living with these characters for so long that I really need to start getting feedback on how it's working for readers, so that's what brings me here. I won't be ready for full-on detailed critiques until I finish the first draft, but I'm hoping to get some high-level feedback on the overall style and story.
I live in the Cleveland area and have worked in various realms of publishing for the past 14 years. Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi Erin, welcome to Zalso! I'm afraid feedback might be slow around here, as most of our members don't check in very often. Perhaps with some new material things will pick up again! My critiquing skills are not the best, but I will certainly help when I can.
It's quite an eye-opener to immerse yourself into writing that deeply isn't it?
